Minum Meals: Shrimp Tacos

3.31.2016

Minum Meals: meals that require as few ingredients as possible but are amazingly delicious. I am not much of a cook. None of these recipes are going to be groundbreaking. What I am more concerned about is having a collection of recipes that won't take an entire evening to make. I understand that some people love spending hours in the kitchen and I truly applaud you. Every time I try it usually turns out too mushy or too salty or simply bland as hell. Then I'm left with a pile of dishes and a literal bad taste in my mouth. So minum meals are for those of us who just want to get in, get out, and get something delicious while we're at it. (Full disclosure: I got inspiration for the name Minum Meals from my favorite tiny house The Minim Home)

So for the past month or two I have been trying to slowly revamp my lifestyle - live more simply, thoughtfully, and sustainably. Through a few small changes I have been able to reduce my wardrobe by half, sell things I'm no longer using, reduce the amount of food waste I produce, and cut down on harmful chemicals in the products I use on a daily basis. This has all been really great in making me feel freer and less cluttered and muddled with thoughtless stuff. However this has all been in preparation for an even more drastic lifestyle change I'm planning in the not-so-distant future.

How to practice minimalism at the grocery store

3.26.2016

Minimalism can be applied to nearly all aspects of your daily and weekly routine. One area that I'm finding really important to focus on is being more mindful about what I buy when I'm at the grocery store. The most important tenet of minimalism for me is thoughtfulness in all aspects of life. Considering the sheer quantity of food waste here in the US, thoughtfulness at the grocery store has taken on national and international importance. I'm not saying you shouldn't buy enough food to feed yourself, but being more thoughtful about the foods you are buying could go a long way in reducing the amount of food you throw out, and could even increase the quality of the food you're putting into your body.

What I've Learned While Trying to Build a Minimalist Wardrobe

One of the first places I started when I decided I wanted to try minimalism was my closet. Clutter in general is always a big source of stress for me because frankly I'm lazy and really awful at cleaning up after myself. The logical solution to this would be to simply have fewer things to have to clean up. Not only does it allow for quicker clean up but it also means you just literally don't have enough stuff to make a mess with.

Why I'm Choosing Minimalism

Minimalism is daunting. For something so simple it can be a huge undertaking.
Minimalism means being thoughtful with your life, careful with how you spend your money, and introspective about what you do with your time. However, practicing minimalism does not have to be an impossible undertaking. Minimalism can be as simple as paring down your wardrobe or as expansive as re-examining your life and your purpose.
